Design Features
Finest
Part Selection: The Sonnet uses the best sounding JFET devices
available. All electrolytic capacitors are a considered combination of Samwha
and ultra low ESR Panasonic Gold series. All components used without our
power supply and amplifier design have been auditioned for performance,
consistency and durability. At Chapter we also use the finest ‘Melf’ surface
mount precision resistors.
Balanced
Zero Ripple Power Supply: This technology allows
the benefits of a regulated supply without the size, heat and wasted energy
of a conventional design Balanced ground layout: Cancels the ground
currents that can cause Inter-modulation distortion and crosstalk in a
conventional stereo design.
Full
Immersion Gold Printed Circuit Boards: Audio signals
travel on gold track. As you would imaging, compared to copper and gold plate
this is a very expensive to manufacture, but the sonic benefits are hugely
tangible in terms of space, air and dynamics.
True
Balanced Analogue Output Stage: The touching and elegant
sound provided by the Chapter Sonnet is buffered by the pure Class-A fully
balanced JFET output stage. A unique blend of Wima Black box capacitors and
non magnetic inductors is used to filter data artifacts from the audio
signal.
Custom
Manufactured VCXO Master Clock: This ultra low phase
noise device is fully custom designed and built for Chapter. Utilizing
technology usually reserved for military and space aviation, an integrated
jitter level of <0.2pS is achieved. More importantly the Chapter VCXO
provides a unique phase noise characteristic for audio purposes. Short term
phase noise close to the carrier is dramatically reduced from commercially
available clock parts.
Clock
Distribution Matrix: The Chapter Sonnet uses its own proprietary
clock distribution system designed to maintain the VCXO phase noise
characteristic through the whole digital system. Feedback is used to
eliminate clock driver substrate noise within the system.
