Ellis Marsalis Trio – Twelve’s It
Recorded in 1998, this is an album that has stood the test of time sounding every bit as good now as it did back then (both musically and sonically). It, personally, has provided the backdrop to many great meals entertaining. But don’t dismiss it as just “dinner jazz” as it holds extremely well to dedicated listening sessions too. It is just so even handed and delightful from start to finish.

More known as the father to famous musician sons, Ellis was an incredible pianist and music educator teaching the likes of Harry Connick Jr, Terence Blanchard, his sons and more. His playing combines both refined elegance and youthful exuberance at the same time keeping the content diverse, yet a cohesive as a whole album. His youngest son, Jason Marsalis, joins as the drummer on this outing. The sound quality of this recording is also at the same high calibre as the musicianship. Find it on TIDAL.
