Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado – Navigation Blues
With over 100 million tracks available at your fingertips, it takes something very compelling to listen to an album twice in a row back-to-back. Yet, that’s exactly what happened to “Navigation Blues” by Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado. The album is a combination of Chicago blues, rock, soul and even boogie with gripping vocals, very rhythmic melodies and propulsive drive. Upon listening to the full album, you’ll hear some things that sound like John Lee Hooker, Billy Gibbons, Ray Charles and more. Quite a variety of instruments are used in the album and the musicianship is first rate. But, it’s the flow and engaging music that will keep you coming back. Sound quality isn’t bad at all, but is somewhat marred by vocals that definitely have some edge to them. However, it could be argued that this edge suits the music and the recording. But, don’t let that dissuade you from listening to this album as you’d be missing out. Find it on Tidal
