The TecnoDec is Michell’s entry-level reference turntable. However, it shouldn’t be considered “entry-level” by any means. It shares many features of their higher-end sibling, the GyroDec. Features such as vibration dampening, an impedance-match platter, a free-standing DC motor and inverted oil circulating bearing allow for uncompromising performance. This unsuspended turntable utilizes materials and technologies you typically will not find in other manufacturers entry-level turntables. Have a listen and be captivated by the musical presentation of the TecnoDec.
Features:
Pure Sorbothane feet inserts
Sorbothane helps isolate the turntable from external vibration transmitted through the equipment rack or other supporting surface.
Impedance-matched platter
The Delrin material used in the TecnoDec platter was chosen for its vibration dampening characteristics. Sonically it is very similar to vinyl, therefore it doesn’t add colouration of its own to maintain a neutral signature.
Free standing motor unit
Machined from a solid billet of aircraft grade aluminium and decoupled from the rest of the turntable, the DC motor unit is designed to minimize transfer of tiny vibrations to sensitive components. The only thing connecting the motor to the turntable itself is the drive belt connected to the platter. This allows for low-noise and increased micro dynamics.
Inverted oil circulating main bearing
Ingenious design resulted in the creation of an inverted main bearing that has the point of rotation at the top of the assembly. This allows full lubrication of the entire bearing during operation. This is accomplished by using a modified Archimedean screw that is machined into the inside bore of the bearing. The oil is drawn from a reservoir at the base of the main bearing up to the thrust ball at the top, fully lubricating as it goes, it then returns to the reservoir via a hole drilled into the bearing spindle. This avoids potential for noise or vibration created by the rotation of the platter.
Adjusting between 33 and 45 RPM
Changing speed is simply done by moving the belt between the two steps provided on the motor pulley.
